The southern fire has many significations, one of interest is this with regard to its presentation of the yajamaana's foe. The significations are obscure and open many questions as to the paths of the Vedic dialects and Indo-Aryan socio-anthropological questions which have been bandied about the net of late.

ZB 2.3.2.6 explains how the Gaarhapatya protects the yajamaana from his enemies.

ZB 2.3.2.2 there is also the identification, per king Yama, with naDa naiSadha-- a particular "roaring tribe" or "roaring" grass or reed--- naDa from -naD- to thunder, shout or roar, and naiSadha, a species of grain, or a tribe.
